T:BUC ‘Camps in the Community’ Event Brings Young People Together from Across the Island
A Camps in the Community event delivered through Together: Building United Communities (T:BUC) was recently hosted at Studio 2 in Derry, bringing together young people from across the area for a day focused on connection, creativity and shared experience.
Participants from a range of T:BUC camps came together to engage in a programme built around dialogue and participation. Throughout the day, young people recorded podcasts and took part in interviews, using the opportunity to speak openly about their experiences, perspectives and what community means to them. The emphasis remained on giving space to authentic voices, with participants shaping conversations in their own words.
T:BUC Ambassadors played a central role, working alongside volunteers from across the network of camps to support those taking part. Their involvement helped create an environment that felt accessible and inclusive, where young people were encouraged not only to contribute, but to lead.
A series of interactive workshops added further dimension to the event. Sessions delivered by Beyond Skin, Foyle Obon, Giga Training and Meraki Art NI offered opportunities for creative expression, cultural exchange and skills development. Live caricatures from Nick Lewis added a visual and informal element that ran alongside the day’s activities.
At its core, the event was defined by how young people engaged with one another. It became a space where they listened, shared and collaborated, demonstrating in practical terms how connections can be built across different backgrounds and experiences.
The day reflected the wider aims of Together: Building United Communities in action - not as a concept, but as something actively shaped by the young people involved.
